What is the Art of Hosting and Harvesting?
The full name of this program is The Art of Hosting and Harvesting (AoHH) Conversations that Matter. This is a 3-day foundational training that introduces principles, methods and processes for fostering participation, harnessing self-organizing capacity, and bringing out collective wisdom in groups of different sizes.
Since the first training in 2016, every AoHH program has been called for and organized by the local community. Each training brings up questions that reflects the community’s longing. This gives people a chance not only to learn the methods, but also to have meaningful conversations with one another around these questions.
In previous trainings, we have welcomed facilitators, trainers, managers, teachers, gardeners, entrepreneurs, therapists, writers, artists, parents, and anyone who deeply cares about the power of meaningful conversations. Such conversations can nurture connection and bring greater effectiveness to life and work. This is the 7th AoHH training in Vietnam and the first one to have a calling question specifically connected to conversations within families.
Foundational world view
Grounded in the living systems thinking, AoHH training invites us to look at the family as a living entity, constantly moving and changing in relationship with both its internal and external environment. Each of these movements carries its own challenges and potential for the people who are part of the family system. These potentials can be unlocked when honest conversations are opened within the family – sometimes simply by beginning with paying attention, expressing what is there, and creating space for one another to express themselves at the right moment.
In these 3 days, we will explore together some foundational models and patterns that shape the way we design pảticipatory processes, listen and hảvest in a changing system. These models can also be used in projects, communities, and workplaces.
They are the foundations that a community of practitioners of co-creative leadership (another name for the Art of Hosting & Harvesting) has built and shared with one another for more than thirty years.
These foundational models have been built, learnt and practiced in the global community of practitioners for the past 3 years, and we will continue to cultivate them as a part of the community.
Learning through practices
Beyond offering participants – as members of a family / community / teams – ways of thinking and theoretical frameworks, the training creates opportunities for everyone to practice inviting, creating space for, holding the rhythm of, and participating in deep conversations, with guidance and support from experienced practitioners.
Participants will experience different ways in which families / communities / teams can open spaces for conversation and draw on the collective wisdom of their members around a meaningful topic. Through the training, we also hope to build a community of people who care about nurturing understanding and connection within their own families and among families.
How will we learn and practice together?
We will learn primarily through practice and reflection. All theories and techniques will be shared and explored through practical examples and conversations that take place within the training space.
Participants will have opportunities to try out facilitation methods with the support of the Hosting Team. Everyone can choose their own role: facilitator, harvester, participant, or observer. Every role comes with their own learning lenses, supporting us to contribute to the collective intelligence effectively.
The hosting team with diverse background and experiences will accompany you through these processes.
By joining Art of Hosting and Harvesting, you will also become part of a global community that stewards and co-creates these evolving methods and philosophies.
